What is Schizophrenia?

What is Schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia is a condition that disrupts brain function. It can interfere with your prime senses, memory, and thoughts. While the basic understanding is that schizophrenia causes hallucinations, there are various forms of this condition.

Schizotypal personality disorder: marked by discomfort in social relationships. People with this disorder may have unusual thoughts and actions that make building and maintaining relationships difficult.

Delusional Disorder: This form of Schizophrenia causes uncertainty about what is real from what is reality. This confusion may fall under several categories such as feeling someone is in love with you, having an overinflated sense of power, jealousy, believing that someone is spying on you, or that you have medical issues.

Brief psychotic disorder: Sudden psychotic behavior that lasts less than 1 month. Full remission is possible but there is also a possibility of future relapse.

Schizophreniform Disorder: This condition includes hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized speech. These symptoms last less than 6 months.

Schizoaffective disorder: This form of Schizophrenia includes hallucinations as well as mood disorders. There is not a 100% cure for this disorder but there are treatments that can help manage symptoms.

Causes

There are various causes of schizophrenia. One of which can be genetics. If it runs in their family, an individual may be at high risk. Moreover, the environment can serve as a factor. Stress, drug use, exposure to toxins, and head injuries can instigate schizophrenia.
